Local man honors dad with Veterans Day golf cart

Posted: Updated:
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -

This Veterans Day, a Peachtree City man found a creative way to honor his father for his decades of Service.

John Sterns owns a golf cart repair shop, and he used his skills to build a one-of-a-kind golf cart that pays tribute to his dad, Cliff.

I've been very proud of my dad's service in Vietnam," said Sterns.  "When I was a little kid, I would tell my friends, my dad flies helicopters."

In fact, Stern says he wanted to buy his dad a military helicopter known as a Huey, but since he couldn't afford it, he designed him a supercharged golf cart instead.

"I'm extremely proud of it," his dad said.  "It's a tribute to what I think started by life as a man which was my service in Vietnam."

When people see the cart, John Stern hops they'll remember all of those who fought for our country, and those who never made it home.  Cliff told FOX 5 he's had the cart for a few days, and its been getting attention everywhere he takes it.

"I'm more proud of my service than anything-- except now my son building this cart for me," Cliff said.

Cliff Stern will take his golf cart to Florida next May for his aviation company's reunion.  John already plans to build a replica to auction off to another veteran.

The Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association Magazine is also considering publishing an article on the Sterns' tribute golf cart.
