New York City is providing seven centers where residents impacted by Superstorm Sandy can go get help and information from the city, FEMA, and several nonprofits, Mayor Mike Bloomberg announced. Four centers are open now and three more will open later this week.
The so-called NYC Restoration Centers will provide one-stop help to visitors who need assistance with the NYC Rapid Repairs program, food and nutrition, temporary housing information, health and medical benefits, business restoration, counseling services, financial assistance, and personal records and information.
NYC Rapid Repairs sends teams of contractors and city inspectors to neighborhoods affected by the storm to quickly repair damaged homes.
The centers will have FEMA staff to register residents and manage and update their FEMA cases.
Staff can also connect residents with SCO Family Services, Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, Catholic Charities of Brooklyn & Queens, Jewish Board of Children & Family Services, Catholic Charities Community Services – Staten Island, FEGS, Good Shepherd Services, Red Hook Initiative, Shorefront Y and Bronxworks.
NYC Restoration Centers are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. These are the centers open as of Nov. 13:
