Families impacted by superstorm Sandy are getting special treatment at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
Approximately 5,000 seats in bleachers along the parade route are reserved for the families.
Tickets will be distributed by local officials in the neighborhoods hardest hit by Sandy, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Thursday.
Transportation to and from the parade will be provided by Macy's.
"Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy friends and family and reflect on life's blessings, but this will be a particularly difficult holiday for many New Yorkers who suffered terrible losses as a result of Hurricane Sandy," said Mayor Bloomberg.
The parade now in its 86th year will feature 8,000 marchers including bands, performers and handlers holding down giant balloons from 77th St. and Central Park West, down to Macy's Herald Square.
