Woman, child drown in submerged car

FORT WORTH, Texas -

A mother and her young child were killed after their car crashed and ended up under water.

Fort Worth police said that accident happened around 7 p.m. in the 6100 block of East Loop South near the Amelia Parc senior apartments.

One car hit another causing it to crash through a fence and land in the apartment complex's pond.

Several witnesses jumped in the water to try to help the driver and her 22-month-old daughter, but they were unable to rescue them.

They were unresponsive when divers pulled them out and later pronounced dead at local hospitals.

Two people in the second car and the witnesses who tried to help were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
