Clarice Tinsley's Hometown Hero this week brings dessert to Fire Station 1 in The Colony every Monday.
Alexandra Petri was 15 years old when she decided she wanted to give back to those who keep people safe. She thought about the military but because she didn't drive she felt it that would be too difficult. She looked in her neighborhood and knew who she'd help... firefighters.
Petri loves to bake cookies, cakes, pies, brownies and more. So to say "thank you" the 15-year-old baked dessert and took it to Fire Station 1 in The Colony on Monday. She's now 18 years old and has baked for the firefighters nearly every Monday for the last three years.
She has a deep faith and said she asked the Lord to show her how to help. This is her mission of gratitude. She doesn't have firefighters in her family and she's never been a victim of a fire. She simply wants to help those who help others... and who doesn't like dessert?
Petri said really it hasn't been hard to bake every week. She loves to bake, wants to help and she just built it into her schedule.
Because she doesn't stay and visit the firefighters didn't know her name for the longest time. All they knew was she'd make a delicious homemade delivery every Monday so they called her "Monday Girl."
In time they learned that she's home schooled, speaks Mandarin Chinese, has been to China and she's interested in the law profession.
Petri will graduate this coming May so the firefighters know the dessert delivery will come to an end. To thank her they've given her birthday cards and Christmas gift cards.
Capt. Jason Bond said he wanted North Texas to know about this special young lady. He said perhaps "she'll inspire others to do the same or something else" for firefighters, police, EMT's and the military.
Petri said even though she plans to go away to college she still plans to bring dessert to Fire Station 1 when she comes home to visit her family.
The firefighters are thinking of creating an Alexandra Petri Scholarship to help students in The Colony as an enduring way for them to say Thank You to the "Monday Girl."
