DeKalb police investigate death of 2-year-old girl

DECATUR, Ga. -
DeKalb County police continue to investigate the murder of a 2-year-old child. Sasha Lamaya Ray was found dead behind her home on Monday.
Investigators said the child was being watched by a 13-year-old sibling at the Waldrop Trail home while the parents were away. When the parents returned, the child was nowhere to be found. She was later located behind the town home with injuries.
The 2-year-old child was rushed to the hospital, where she died of the injuries.
"I know my daughter's gone to heaven, and I still need to do what I need to make it to where she is, because she's in a better place than I am," said the child's father, Shelton Latroy Ray.
A family member told FOX 5 News that the child had been stabbed, but police had not confirmed that as of Tuesday morning.
DeKalb County Police spokesperson Mekka Parish said that investigators had interviewed family members and noted that police were not searching for anyone.
"At this point, I don't think we should classify it as looking for a predator, but certainly we are looking into a number of things that would have possibly contributed to the death of this child," Parish said.
A neighbor told FOX 5 that the child's mother works at a daycare.
Family members said that significant progress had been made in the case, but police did not confirm that.
