(WJBK) -- I'm taking my weekly Get Fit segment and expanding it to show you how to say fit throughout the different stages of your life. In this special we'll take you through elementary school, high school, those stubborn 'Freshman 15,' your 30s and all the way up into your golden years.

Let's take a look at different places throughout metro Detroit that can help you stay active and fit throughout your life.

Use the video player above to watch the different segments from the special (beginning sometime on Friday, Nov. 24). You can get the information on each segment below. And be sure to watch FOX 2 News Morning every Thursday for a new Get Fit workout.

Fitness for life begins in early stages
Even in elementary school fitness and health are important. We're showing you how the students at the YMCA Detroit Leadership Academy are embracing a healthier lifestyle by working on their mind, body and spirit.

Fitness for high schoolers and 20-somethings
Get Fit personal trainer Pierre Vinson of G.I.V.E. Fitness gives high school students some fitness suggestions, as well as, helping college students keep off that 'freshman fifteen.'

Running (whether its jogging or power sprints keep your body moving)
Weight Lifting (small weight workout can be done in your dorm room)
Cardio (for high school students and college students getting heart rate up is key to staying fit)

Visit Pierre Vinson at the G.I.V.E. studio on 200 Mt. Elliott in Detroit. Or call him at 313-451-1FIT.

Fitness for 30-somethings
Push yourself to the Nth Degree and get fit. I recently stopped by Nth Degree Fitness in Royal Oak. This edgy fitness center provides a "club" vibe for you to groove and lose some weight. With two personal trainers on hand for each session, it's a workout that burns, builds, and tones your body to give you results every day.

Fitness for people with disabilities
"Disabled doesn't mean unabled." For people with disabilities, those are words to live by. Earlier this year, I had a chance to play in the 11th Annual Celebrity Wheelchair Basketball Game, hosted by Lions lineman Ndamukong Suh. While, it may sound easy to shoot the ball while sitting, I found out it was extremely hard and required some special skills.

Meet some of the players of the Detroit Diehard Wheelchair Basketball Team that show us that just because someone is disabled, doesn't meant they can't "Get Fit".

Fitness for 40 and 50-somethings
As you get older, you may start noticing some aches and pains that weren't there when you were younger.  Get Fit Personal Trainer Kimo Frederiksen of True Body Detroit is working for you with some fitness tips to help you ease those minor aches and pains.

Fitness for Baby Boomers
I discovered a group of active older adults who say they've found the fountain of youth.  And the man to lead them there is 83-year-old group exercise instructor John Barber.

Mr. Barber instructs a fitness class at the Royal Oak YMCA. His workouts cover balance, cardio, and agility.  It's not a workout to tire you out, but to keep your body moving as you settle into your golden ears.

The YMCA of Metro Detroit offers fitness classes for all ages. Log on to for more information.
