WJBK Fox 2 -

Detroit is a worldwide symbol for industry's rise and fall.  It's known for making cars and too often, for making headlines about terrible blight and crime.

If you're an entrepreneur you know Detroit as something else: An opportunity.

Fox 2's Alexis Wiley hosts a special program called "Redefining Detroit."  Watch it on Fox 2,  Thanksgiving day at 6:30am and again on Friday 11/23 @ 11:30am.

Play the videos to view some of the highlights from the show.  A full video replay will be added at a later time.

In the program we learn about: (play the videos above)

Detroit Venture Partners, a group of heavy hitting entrepreneurs who are betting on Detroit's comeback including Josh Linkner, Dan Gilbert and Ervin 'Magic' Johnson to name a few.  Find out how they stake companies who set up shop in the city.  Have a pitch? Go to their web: http://detroitventurepartners.com/

Working in Downtown Detroit.  More than 10,000 people say this is their favorite place to be.  Wiley finds out why and she talks with Cindy Pasky of Strategic Staffing Solutions to find out what's moving and shaking.  http://www.strategicstaff.com/

Growth in Midtown.  The heart of the city's resurgence is Midtown thanks in part to the efforts of Sue Mosey of Midtown Detroit Inc.  It's really about three words: Live, work and play.  If you're looking for events, a job or a place to live in Midtown go to: http://midtowndetroitinc.org/

Challenge Detroit is a program designed to get more young people to the city and it does it by providing a sense of purpose and meaning, allowing recent college grads to give back.  More about this program: http://www.challengedetroit.org/

Tech Town has been serving as an incubator for start up businesses since 2006.  Now the Midtown based think tank is spreading it's services to Brightmoor and now opportunities to open businesses there are on the rise.  Details on where you can discuss your ideas, go to http://techtowndetroit.org/.

The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation is a non-profit that is designed to help businesses succeed. One if its program in The Villages allows risk-takers the chance to test the market with pop-up businesses.  Simple notion: Try it for a month and see what happens. Want to try? Go to: http://www.degc.org/newsdetail

A round table discussion at Detroit hot spot Joe Muer's Seafood has Wiley talking about the city's future with Haj Flemings, the founder of Brand Camp University, Serita Scott of Good People Popcorn and Victoria Katanksy of Hatch Detroit.  What will it take to succeed?

Bottom line, end of the day, in closing, et al: Right now opportunity is knocking.  The people that are showcased in the stories Wiley tells so well are working to make Detroit a better place AND they believe in the city.  Cradle the thought: 'What one person can do' and then go do it.  Detroit's comeback is ours if we make it happen.  For some people living life in the 'D', it already is.
