With Black Friday finished, it's time for Cyber Monday -- the biggest online shopping day of the year. Just as you get comfortable in front of the computer screen with credit card in hand, scammers are in position too.
So, how can you do your online shopping safely?
First, be careful of deals that are too good to be true, and watch out for phishing. Those are fake emails asking you for personal information.
Make sure you shop at trust-worthy web sites. In the web address, look for an "s" in the https://. Be sure to pay with a credit card and not a debit card. If you have to dispute that charge later, it'll be a whole lot easier to settle. After you complete your online order, you will you get a confirmation page with a number. Save it by copying it in case there is a problem with your order.
All season long, keep an eye on your credit card statement. Don't wait for the paper statements. Log on to your account, look for any suspicious activity, and report it immediately.
