GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -

A cookout was abandoned Sunday evening when uninvited guests opened fire during an argument, police say.

The incident happened at about 4:45 at the Fish Creek Linear Park in the 4500 block of Coventry.

According to Grand Prairie police, a caller first reported a fight involving about 50 people and then called back moments later to report a shooting.

Arriving officers reported finding several bullet casings in the street and park areas, but could not locate any shooting victims.

According to witnesses, uninvited guests arrived at the outing and began arguing and fighting with attendees before opening fire.

Just before 5 p.m. two gunshot victims likely related to the shooting showed up at two separate hospitals in the area, police said.

One victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and the other suffered a gunshot to his chest, they said. Both patients required surgery and both were listed in serious condition.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call 972-237-8877.
