A Tarrant County jury indicted a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and their young son, then setting their home on fire.
Police say Thomas Olivas stabbed Mechelle Gandy to death, then set her apartment on fire. The medical examiner determined the couple's 1-year-old son, Asher Olivas, died of smoke inhalation.
The murders happened in the 2200 block of President's Corner Drive in March 2011, the day before Olivas was supposed to take a paternity test to determine whether he should be paying child support.
Olivas wasn't arrested until this past September. He remains in the Tarrant County jail on $1 million bond.
