A 35-year-old man died in a head-on collision on Wednesday morning, but his stepdaughter's life may have been saved by her child safety seat.
Police say Keith Cleveland of Grand Prairie was driving southbound on SW 3rd Street near Dickey Road about 8:10 a.m.
Investigators say for some reason, Cleveland lost control of his Nissan Pathfinder and crossed the center strip into the northbound lanes, where his vehicle struck another car.
The Pathfinder flipped two and a half times, landing on its roof. Cleveland was ejected from the SUV and died at the scene. Passers-by found his 4-year-old stepdaughter still strapped in her safety seat, and paramedics say she suffered only minor injuries.
The driver of the other car was treated at the scene. Police are still investigating why Cleveland lost control.
This is the 11th fatal traffic accident this year in Grand Prairie.
