Suspects fire AK-47 at State Trooper on Detroit's west side

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

Two people are under arrest after police say one of them opened fire on a Michigan State Trooper during a chase through a Detroit neighborhood.

The shooting happened at McNichols and Grand River Ave. just after 8 p.m. Thursday. The trooper was trying to pull over a Chrysler 300, but instead of stopping, a man leaned out of the window and opened fire with an assault rifle.

The trooper was not injured.

As the weapon recoiled, rounds also hit the suspect's car. The driver pulled over and two men inside ran from the scene. Police say a 23-year-old woman was left behind and taken into custody.

Officers eventually caught up with one of the suspects, a 22-year-old man. They also recovered an AK-47 and an old fashioned 'Tommy Gun' in the vehicle.
