Dozens of people were forced out of their homes early Friday morning after a fire broke out in a mid rise apartment building.
Firefighters responded at 1:17 a.m. to the Lakeland Manor apartments at 3105 Peavy Road, near Buckner Boulevard.
They discovered a fire in one unit on the third floor. The woman who lived there says she and her husband woke up to find their bed on fire, so they got out and called 911.
That woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Some of the residents were evacuated, and others were asked to stay in their apartments. Fire officials say there is smoke and water damage to the second and third floors.
