Conn. trooper accused of stealing from crash site

Posted: Updated:

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police have accused a state trooper of taking $3,000 worth of jewelry and cash from a man killed in a motorcycle crash.

Trooper Aaron Huntsman, an 18-year veteran of the state police, faces two counts of third-degree larceny. He was arrested Thursday and also is charged with interfering with police and tampering with evidence.

John Scalesse of Orange was killed Sept.22 on his motorcycle on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield. Huntsman and other emergency personnel investigated.

Scalesse's family told police they couldn't account for some jewelry, clothing and cash. State police found jewelry, which had not been logged into evidence by the trooper who led the investigation. Police also found cash in the trooper's car.

Huntsman does not have a listed phone number and it was not known if he is represented by a lawyer.
