Fort Worth Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead announced changes to the department after his chief of staff was arrested over the weekend on allegations of drunken driving.
Chief Halstead demoted Paul Henderson from the rank of major to captain and removed him from the chief's office.
Henderson was arrested early Saturday morning in Parker County near Aledo. A state trooper suspected him of driving drunk after he reportedly made an unsafe lane change.
Henderson is the 18th Fort Worth police officer to be arrested on DWI charges since 2008.
"I'm extremely disappointed we are again discussing this behavior involving one of our employees, especially a police officer," Chief Halstead said.
Henderson begins his new assignment on Dec. 8 with the Community Programs Division of the Support Bureau.
That date also marks Chief Halstead's fourth anniversary with the department.
