Police seek suspect in woman's murder

DALLAS -

Dallas police have charged three people with the Wednesday murder of a woman in northwest Dallas, but they were still looking for one of the suspects on Thursday.

According to investigators, Ruth Barradas and Valentin Carus are in custody, charged with capital murder in the death of Oliva Arvizu. However, Angelica Cruz-Martinez remains at large.

Dallas police said the trio conspired to rob, kidnap and kill Arvizu, and an unidentified man, and that they tried to carry out their plan at about noon on Wednesday at a home in the 9900 block of Bowman Boulevard.

Police said officers who were called to the location to investigate a reported fight discovered the badly beaten man, who had jumped through a window to escape his assailants. They also found the body of Arvizu, whom they said had died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Suspects Barradas and Carus, police said, were initially interviewed as witnesses but later arrested.

Cruz-Martinez fled the location before officers arrived, they said.

Police ask anyone with information on Cruz-Martinez to call Detective Shinn at 214-283-4812 or Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS.
