Rockaway residents vent frustration

MYFOXNY.COM -

More than six weeks after Supertorm Sandy hit the tristate thousands of residents in Far Rockaway, Queens, still have no power, thousands more no heat or hot water. All of those affected say they came to a meeting Monday for one reason: they need help.

An estimated 10,000 homes in the Rockaway Peninsula still have no power. Many more are without heat, hot water, or a home.

The Queens Congregations United for Action organized the meeting, which was held at St. Mary Star of the Sea School in Far Rockaway.

The interfaith network believes the city's response to sandy has been slow and inadequate in Queens.

Residents said they no longer accept limited public transportation, housing, and current health conditions. They say mold has become such an issue they've even dubbed the pulmonary problem as the "Rockaway cough."
