Local officials have filed a lawsuit to stop the construction of a garbage transfer station near Asphalt Green, a not-for-profit sports and fitness center, on the Upper East Side.
Carol Tweedy of Asphalt Green spoke with GDNY on Thursday about their efforts.
"This is the worst place to build it. Over a thousand kids have written letters to the mayor saying stop the dump; don't take away my playground," said Tweedy.
A rally and march to Gracie Mansion is planned from 1 p.m. starting at Asphalt Green.
"It could be another month before we hear from a judge," said Tweedy.
