MYFOXNY.COM -

A student at Walt Whitman High School was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital on Thursday morning after plunging from a third floor window.

It is not clear if the boy fell or if he jumped.

It happened at about 9:12 a.m.  Nassau County Police quickly responded to a 911 call about the injured boy.

He was listed in stable condition at the hospital, according to school officials.  It was unclear what injuries he suffered after the fall.

The superintendent, Dr. David Bennardo issued a statement saying:  "Our counseling team is currently on site and providing support to students and teachers throughout the day. We ask everyone to pray for our student's recovery and be supportive of our South Huntington family during this difficult time."

The Walt Whitman High School is located on West Hills Road in Huntington Station.  The school was put on what it called a "modified lockdown" as police conducted their investigation.
