Hundreds of workers are losing their jobs as American Airlines shuts down a north Fort Worth maintenance base.
American on Friday took its first steps to close its facility at Alliance Airport, issuing pink slips to dozens of employees. About 250 workers in total will be laid off.
Some employees and their spouses expressed frustration with the plan, saying workers had sacrificed to keep the bankrupt carrier afloat and stay with American, including moving to other areas of the country to keep their jobs.
However, one laid off worker said he had no hard feeling as he left the facility early Friday.
"Just closure. Just moving on, you know. I'm not bitter. It's been a good job, it really has," Arlington resident Dave Warden said. "It's just – after 13 years – you know, it's a little emotional, but we're going to be OK."
