Man killed, teen girl injured in West Side shooting

A man was killed and a teen girl wounded after they were shot Monday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. in the 5800 block of West Superior Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The man and teen girl were sitting in a car when two men walked up on the foot and one of the men fired shots at the vehicle, Greer said.

The 38-year-old man was shot in the armpit and was pronounced dead at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Greer said. He was identified as Sherman Horton, of the 5900 block of West Superior Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The 17-year-old girl suffered a graze wound to the buttocks and is in good condition at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Greer said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
