US Marshals arrest woman on the run for 18 years

Posted: Updated:

FOX 5 was with U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement agencies when they arrested a woman who was wanted for murder, and on the run for nearly 18 years. Investigators say Jessica Keil was arrested at her Dalton home on Thursday.

Authorities say Keil was living in Dalton under her real name, and even told her husband and children that her past could come back and haunt her.

According to investigators, Keil was a teenager when she became involved in the 1995 murder of another teen in southern Pennsylvania. They say she did not commit the murder, but she was there and helped clean up the blood, and moved the victim's body. She disappeared shortly after the murder.

Police say at the time she had been using the name Tonya Dice, and they thought that was her real name. They spent the better part of nearly 18 years searching for a Tonya Dice without success.

They say Keil moved to Georgia, and other parts of the country but kept coming back to Dalton, where she held several jobs and worked as a waitress. She eventually married and had three children.

"Based on all the information we have, it looks like she was just living a normal life," said U.S. Marshal Wayne Warren.

According to investigators, for some reason she had fingerprints taken and through those prints, authorities were able to identify and match the prints of Tonya Dice. That led them to Dalton, and to Keil.

Police say Keil was surprised when they knocked on her door, and told her children "this day might come and I'll have to go away."

Keil was taken into custody to the county jail. Authorities expect her to waive extradition and be taken back to Pennsylvania where she will face charges, including homicide and drug possession.

Investigators said that the victim's family was relieved to hear of the arrest.
