Taxpayers want to know what's being done about on-site security to protect city resources after another theft was reported at a city of Atlanta office.
Authorities say thieves stole thousands of dollars of vehicle equipment on Sunday. Sources tell FOX 5's Morse Diggs that the suspected thieves are employees or former employees.
Government property that has turned up missing recently includes gasoline, water meters, tires, and now at least 33 vehicle batteries. Sources indicate the number of batteries may be more than 50.
"It would not happen at Wal-Mart. It would not happen at the mall. If they had a stock room or any store in the city, where they had stuff coming up missing, you can bet that the management of that store or that facility would get to the bottom of it," said Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Bond.
City officials said that the latest incident is under investigation.
Just four days later, FOX 5's Morse Diggs found that a non-government vehicle was able to get on the property without being stopped or checked.
FOX 5 has asked to see surveillance footage of Sunday's theft.
