CANTON, Mich. (WJBK) -- A new dodgeball craze is sweeping metro Detroit, and it isn't your run of the mill gym class version. Yes, you can still act like a fifth grader if you want, just get ready to kick up the intensity level a few notches.
"You jump on and then you lose control of your body. There (are) balls flying everywhere. It's a real adrenaline rush," said Simeon Kraft.
A group of guys affably known as Free Head Shots hone their skills in metro Detroit at the Canton Sky Zone.
"We named it Free Head Shots for two reasons. One, to inspire fear in the hearts of our enemies, but also to give everyone a good target so they know where we're aiming for," Kraft explained.
You can watch them compete in the Ultimate Trampoline Dodgeball Championship from Los Angeles at 1:00 p.m. Sunday on Fox Sports Detroit.
If you want to try your hand at this form of dodgeball on steroids, you can sign up at the Sky Zone in Canton. It's not just fun. It may help you shed some of those calories you packed on over the holidays.
"It really is a major cardio workout. It takes a lot of stamina to stay in the game. These guys are in pretty good shape. They played against the best," said Sky Zone owner Colleen Fitzgerald.
Starting Monday, the Sky Zone is offering expanded holiday hours. They're also opening new facilities next year in Shelby Township and Novi.
