Student's text sparks search at MacArthur High School

Posted: Updated:
IRVING, Texas -

Rumors of guns in the classroom sparked a search at Irving ISD -- a search that turned up nothing.

According to district spokesman Billy Rudolph, a MacArthur High School student heard rumors that some of her fellow class members were armed with weapons. She sent a text to her mother about it, and the mother called police.

Irving police Lt. Samuel Hall says three school resource officer who were already on campus immediately searched the classroom on the main campus at 3700 MacArthur Blvd. Officers found no weapons and no danger.

The teen who sent the text is being questioned and may face consequences.

Irving ISD plans to have extra security at each campus this afternoon as school lets out for the winter break.
