A 16-year-old Plano student was rushed to the hospital Friday after being struck by a car.
The accident happened on Windhaven Parkway after school let out for winter break.
Police said several cars stopped when they saw a school bus with flashing red lights and a stop sign, but Stephanie Kelley kept on going and hit Dylan Copeland, a Shepton High School freshman.
"We heard a really loud noise and looked out the window and we just saw someone on the curb," said Sarah Nomobuwa, who witnessed the accident from inside the bus.
Copeland flipped onto the hood of Kelley's black Lexus sedan, smashed her windshield and then fell and hit his head on the curb.
"I saw him on the curb and when people were lifting him up and all, the back of his head was bleeding and the front of his face. There was bandages around him," said Carlos Jong, another witness.
The students on the bus and the driver told police Kelley may have been texting, but she has denied that claim.
Police did not cite her for failure to stop for a school bus. They said she was cooperating with the investigation.
Copeland's injuries were not life-threatening.
"Kids think it's safe to cross when the bus is stopped and the lights are flashing. That's not always the case," said Officer David Tilley with the Plano Police Department.
