DALLAS -

A 7-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was hit and dragged by a car while riding his bicycle in Dallas Monday afternoon.

The accident happened in the 2700 block of N. Buckner Boulevard at Gross Road.

Witnesses tell FOX 4 the child was trying to cross the busy street when he was struck by a gold Toyota. The woman driving the car immediately stopped and tried to help.

The child was rushed to Baylor Hospital, then taken by air ambulance to Children's Medical Center.

People who live in the neighborhood say it's not the first time something like this has happened.

"We have five or six apartment complexes right here, there's a lot of kids around here on bikes or scooters," said Esthela Ortega. "So many lanes on the street, it doesn't give a person time to cross over.

Another woman who was the first to stop and help called 911.

"When I see him, he was hurt so bad, it broke my heart, you know?" she said. "It's painful for me because I have kids."

The child's condition and name have not yet been released.
