The gifts are open, the tinsel is down, and it's time to put away the decorations for another year.
DALLAS
The City of Dallas is asking residents to recycle their live Christmas trees by dropping them off at your local Home Depot. The city will then grind the trees into mulch.
There is no charge for the drop off, and it doesn't matter if you purchased your tree from somewhere else.
Drop off your tree between Dec. 26 and Jan. 7 at any of these Home Depot locations:
The city will not be doing any special curbside collection for Christmas trees, and there will not be a drop off point at Flag Pole Hill this year.
If you choose to leave your tree on the curb, make sure you do it during your normal week for bulk/brush collection. (Click here to find out when that is: http://www.dallascityhall.com/sanitation/brush_and_bulky.html )
DENTON
This year, curbside collection of real trees begins the week after Christmas. After removing all decorations - including lights, tinsel, wire, tree skirts, and stands - place real trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day and at least four feet away from carts and other objects.
Artificial, flocked, or decorated trees cannot be composted; call (940) 349-8700 to schedule a trash collection of these trees. If you do not have curbside service, real trees can be taken to the City of Denton Landfill to be composted at no charge. Also remember, any extra trash outside your cart must be scheduled for a special collection.
Extra holiday recycling, such as large cardboard boxes, can be taken to one of our four recycling drop-off centers. Visit www.dentonrecycles.com for more information.
ARLINGTON
After the holidays are over, residents and businesses are encouraged to recycle Christmas trees. Two free drop-off locations are available from Dec. 26, 2012 through Jan. 12, 2013:
South Arlington
Calloway's Nursery
4949 S. Cooper St.
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily
817-465-2838
North Arlington
Arlington Sanitary Landfill
800 Mosier Valley Road
7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Monday through Saturday
817-354-2300
Please do not take Christmas trees to the leaf recycling drop-off sites. Free mulch from the trees will be available to residents at the landfill in the spring for gardens and landscapes. Before you recycle your Christmas tree:
Trees placed curbside will not be recycled. Trees taller than 6' must be cut in half to be collected curbside. For more information about the City's recycling program, call 817-459-6777 or www.arlingtontx.gov/environment.
