New York home of 'The Odd Couple'

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Ever since actor Jack Klugman died on Christmas Eve, more and more people are coming by 1049 Park Avenue in Manhattan to check out where Oscar and Felix lived. The building was used as the exterior for "The Odd Couple."

It's an iconic sitcom credit opening "The Odd Couple" exits their New York City apartment building, and Felix disposes of Oscar's cigar. That scene was shot in the 1970s.

"Everyone asks me if we still have the ash tray, which unfortunately, no we don't," says doorman Sean Kavanagh. He says he has seen it all in his three years on the job.

"Constant fans, tour buses from Jersey make their trip, the occasional pieces of mail, in their name which is funny," he says.

But ever since Klugman, who played Oscar, died people are flocking to the building to pay their respects. The building has even proudly displayed Klugman's obituary in the lobby.

Although They had the fancy address in the 1970s, now it might be impossible for Oscar, a sportswriter, and Felix, a photographer, to live here since the average apartment costs almost $1.8 million.
