Police chase ends when suspect flips car

MESQUITE, Texas -

A suspect who may have committed a crime in Garland led police in Mesquite on a brief chase that ended with a flipped car and the suspect in the hospital.

According to Lt. Bill Hedgepeth, Mesquite police approached a white Honda in the 1100 block of Thistle about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. They wanted to see if the man behind the wheel had committed a crime in Garland.

Instead, the suspect fled, leading police from Highway 80 onto southbound I-635. As the white Honda sped up, police say he tried to cut between three other cars on the road, and ended up hitting all three of them.

Then the Honda went out of control and flipped over several times. The suspect, 28-year-old Scott Banks, was injured and rushed to the hospital.

The drivers of the other three cars were not seriously hurt, said Hedgepeth.

Banks is under police guard at the hospital. He's facing felony evasion charges, as well as driving without insurance.
