PARTY TIPS

  • Have dinner and come afterwards to have some drinks, play board games, watch the ball drop on TV and go home; no drinking and driving no commotion.
  • Group lots of candles and any sparkly leftover Christmas decor together for a kitschy but celebratory table.
  • Buy an inexpensive drink fountain that you can use every year; you are making this a tradition; Target, Best Buy, Amazon all have them.
  • Keep it simple sparkling wine and orange juice and maybe vodka and tonic and that's it.
  • Breakfast foods to serve at around midnight: scrambled egg sandwiches with smoked salmon, cream cheese or ham, banana pancakes, mimosas.
  • If you are feeling extra energetic, send people home with a breakfast cake or brioche and some hot cocoa mix for breakfast.
  • Board games keep people occupied and are the consummate ice breaker.
  • Buy hats and noisemakers at the drugstore.
