A number of North Texans hoping for good luck in 2013 jumped into a pool on New Year's Day with temperatures just above freezing.
The thrill seekers gathered for the Third Annual Polar Plunge at the Central YMCA in Arlington. The event supports the city's largest provider of childcare programs.
"I like to do fun, crazy thing… one-time things and probably not do it again," said Nikki Babb.
Erin Kelley intended to jump in with her children.
"They wanted to come. I didn't make them," she said with her son shaking his head behind her. "Sounded better a few days ago. Now that's it's here, don't know how good an idea it sounds like."
But soon after they hit the 45 degree water, they popped back out and dried off for coffee and hot chocolate.
"My son chickened out. My daughter is crying. Other than that, it wasn't too bad," Kelley said.
