The Talker: New study finds younger generation is rude

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A new report says young people are getting ruder.
A study done by ratedpeople.com shows that people between 18 and 34 are 21% less likely to say hello to their neighbors than people over 55 years of age. They are also 36% less likely to tip their mailman, 18% less likely to open a door for the elderly, and 17% give up their seat to a pregnant woman.
Researchers blame technology and a lack of proper training by their parents for the decline in respect.
A psychiatrist said the survey is evidence of a society where people care more and more about themselves, about material gain, and increasingly less about other people.
That conclusion echoes Pope Benedict's Christmas Eve message from the Vatican. He said a hectic, technology-driven world has people too focused on themselves and not focused enough on children, strangers who need help, and God.
As for the survey, some of those things might be rude, others, maybe not. younger people may not be able to afford to tip well and a man insisting on opening a door for a woman could be viewed as polite or sexist.
