ATLANTA (AP) - A spokesman for Democratic U.S. Rep. John Lewis says funeral services for Lillian Miles Lewis - the congressman's wife - have been scheduled for next week at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Lillian Lewis died Monday at the age of 73 and Xernona Clayton, a close friend of hers, said Lewis was sick and had been hospitalized before her death. Her funeral is scheduled for Jan. 7 and is set to begin at 11 a.m.
Brenda Jones, spokeswoman for the congressman, says in lieu of flowers donations are being accepted by the American Kidney Fund on behalf of Lillian Lewis.
Lillian was married to John Lewis for 44 years and the couple has one son. Lewis represents Georgia's fifth congressional district, which spans Atlanta and portions of surrounding suburbs.

A judge has sentenced Michael Parson to the maximum of 35 years in jail for the attempted murder of his wife. On Thursday, Parson was convicted of shooting his wife, Adina, eight times in 2012.
