Residents in a Lewisville neighborhood are on alert after a woman jogging in a nearby park was sexually assaulted.
Police said it happened at on the western edge of the LL Woods Park on Arbor Way at about 7:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve. It's one of the poorest lit areas of the park and the sun had already gone down.
The 32-year-old woman said she was attacked by two guys who had been hiding behind a tree. She struggled with them, but they knocked her unconscious and raped her.
Some who frequent the park believe extra lighting around the bike path would help deter crime.
"We want to partner with the city and get lights put in along the trail that do two things. One help with walkers and two positions them closer to the baskets then disc golfers can come out at night," said Chad Cornell, who was out playing disc golf. "So, that would be something. But for the most part this is a safe park. We don't really see… Like I said we see joggers, but we don't really see any sketchy people out or any criminals or anything like that."
Most nearby homeowners had the same opinion. They said the park is safe and attacks like the one that happened are rare.
Investigators remind people any kind of personal alarm system or defense method is always a good idea for jogging at night.
Police did not release a description of the suspects.
