Thousands of workers with the city of Fort Worth had less in the bank than they expected this morning.
Between 6,500 and 7,000 city workers did not get their paychecks directly deposited into their accounts overnight.
Fort Worth spokesperson Bill Begley blamed the mistake on an "administrative error" in the payroll department.
Payroll is usually prepared on Thursday and submitted to Chase Bank for the direct deposits. But this morning the city realized that didn't happen.
Begley said employees who are Chase customers could be paid as early as Saturday morning, although others will have to wait until Monday.
Short-term emergency help was arranged through the Fort Worth City Credit Union for workers who needed quick cash.
The city has also been contacting banks, asking them not to charge any overdraft fees that may happen due to the delay.
The payroll department is making changes to make sure it doesn't happen again, Begley said.
