FOX 32 Sunday: Reporter’s Notebook: Sen. Mark Kirk back to work

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Talk about an emotional day on Capitol Hill. Party lines were blurred as Republican Senator Mark Kirk went back to work last week.

There were lots of hugs and handshakes as the senator climbed the 45 steps to his office. This is the first time he's made that trip since he suffered a massive stroke last January..

The steps were lined with Kirk's colleagues. Vice President Joe Biden and Illinois Senator Dick Durbin helped Kirk slowly make us way up the stairs.

Kirk's stroke left him with limited mobility on the left side of his body and it affected his speech. He'll use a four-pronged cane to get around and a wheelchair.

He thanked his constituents for their patience. His goal was to work those steps and he accomplished that goal.

He's now officially back to work and ready, he says, to vote in favor of tougher gun laws.
