Mesquite Amber Alert results in arrest

Posted: Updated:

A 27 year old man was taken into police custody less than an hour after an Amber Alert was issued Saturday morning.

Mesquite Police spokesman Lt. Bill Hedgpeth says the Amber Alert stemmed from a disturbance at an apartment complex on Samuel Blvd. in Mesquite. Hedgpeth says 27 year old Kevin Stewart took his two year old son and two year old step son during the disturbance and left the scene in his car. "Mesquite Police issued an Amber Alert based on reported threats and behavior by Mr. Stewart during the disturbance with his wife, Labrena," according to the police spokesman.

Less than an hour after the alert was issued, Hedgpeth says Irving police took the suspect into custody at a gas station in the 3400 block of Belt Line Road in Irving. "The children are safe and have been reunited with their mother and Mr. Stewart has been arrested and will be charged with Endangering a Child." Hedgpeth said.
