PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) --Opening statements are scheduled to begin Tuesday afternoon in the trial of a man accused of killing an elderly Royal Oak woman.
Alan Craig Wood, 49, and Tonia Watson, 41, were arrested for the 2011 murder of 80-year-old Nancy Dailey.
Watson is expected to testify against Wood after reaching a plea deal. Wood faces a first-degree murder charge, punishable by a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Watson faced the same charge, but pleaded to a lesser charge of second-degree murder, according to the Royal Oak Tribune.
Dailey was found dead inside her Trafford Ave. home on Nov. 20, 2011. Police say she had been beaten, stabbed and tied to a chair. A week before her death, Dailey hired Wood and Watson to do yard work at her home.
The pair were described as drug users with lengthy criminal records. Police say they returned to Dailey's home in search of cash.
Wood's trial will take place in front of Oakland County Circuit Judge Colleen O'Brien.
