Police are investigating a stolen car, a kidnapping, and a home invasion that they believe were all committed by the same man.
The incident began Monday morning about 7 a.m. at a 7-Eleven on Ferguson Road at Oates Drive.
Police tell FOX 4 that a family of four pulled up in a silver extended-cab pickup. Three of them went inside for coffee, leaving the fourth woman in the running truck.
According to a public information officer with the police, a suspect then jumped in the truck and demanded that the woman give him money.
When she refused, he put the truck in reverse and drove off, even though the victim was struggling with him.
Police say the man displayed a weapon, but did not use it on the victim.
As he continued to drive erratically, he struck a pole and a parked trailer on Healy Drive. Finally, he crashed the vehicle head-on into a utility pole in the 2900 block of Centerville Rd.
The man fled from the scene, and police believe he kicked in the door of a home on Cassandra Way, in a neighborhood a short distance from the crash scene.
In that home invasion, the family inside had a shotgun, but the suspect managed to wrestle it away. There are reports that one person in that home managed to strike the suspect in the head with a hammer before he fled.
Police found him a short time later hiding in a dumpster behind a gas station. His name has not yet been released.
FOX 4's Lynn Kawano says initial reports from the scene indicate the man is extremely intoxicated, possibly on drugs.
