Police fear heavily armed robbers in Fort Worth

Posted: Updated:

They're quick. They're heavily armed and Fort Worth police said these takeover-style robbers have already been violent.

A clerk from the Quick Way Food Mart on Meadowbrook Drive in Fort Worth said when several armed men came into his store two days ago he had no time to think.

"It took like a minute for everything to happen," he said. "I wasn't scared or anything because I guess I didn't have time to get scared."

The men stormed in and immediately started yelling.

"The next thing I heard was, 'Get down. Get down on your knees.' And the guy with the pistol jumped over the counter, pointed the gun at me. I was on my knees with my hands up and he asked where the money was," the clerk said.

Fort Worth police are worried.

"These are the most heavily armed crew of robbers we've seen in a while," said Brian Raynford, a detective with the Fort Worth Police Department.

They believe the same four men also robbed a food store on Meadowbrook Drive and then a convenience store on Benbrook and Bangor drives on Dec. 23.

And they think it's only a matter of time before the robberies will get out of hand.

"The way they move, they're covering the entire store with their weapons. They come in, go right to the clerk and force the clerk to the ground. In at least two of the robberies they've struck the clerk with the weapons," Detective Raynford said.

Police point out two things in surveillance video that have them afraid for anyone who may confront the men. During the most recent robbery, the first robber jumps over the counter and draws back the chamber to load a bullet.

Then the second suspect backs up, whips around and aims what looks like an Uzi submachine gun around the store seemingly looking for other customers.

"It's only a matter of time before they start using the weapons and engage somebody in a gun fight," Raynford said.

Police said they see lots of armed robberies, but very few where all of the suspects involved are heavily armed.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips are welcome.
