A group of third graders from Henry County have been invited to President Barack Obama's inauguration. Fifteen students from Stockbridge Elementary School are saving up for their big trip and they could use your help.
When President Obama took the oath of office four years ago, the 8-year-olds were still in pre-school. Now they're embarking on a trip to participate in history.
"We'll actually get to see the President take the oath and see him, not just on television," said Jordynn Shirley, a student at the school.
The students are the best and brightest of Stockbridge Elementary. They are called ambassadors for their leadership role in the school. While they appreciate being able to witness the inauguration, they are also excited by the pageantry of it all.
It won't be all red carpets and fancy parties. The students will get an up close and personal lesson on American history.
"We will get to learn more in social studies and we will get to see a lot of things that a lot of other people haven't really seen before," said Giancarlos Bryant.
Christina Freeman, a math coach at Stockbridge, said she's excited about the trip.
"For them to say that they were there and they experienced it and they know what it truly means to be a part of the United States of America," said Freeman.
The children's families will have to come up with more than $1,000 each to cover the cost of the four-day trip. To help, visit http://www.gofundme.com/1ijw00
