City, teachers union to resume talks on teacher evaluations

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) -- With a Jan. 17 deadline looming, New York City and its teachers' union are returning to the bargaining table to hammer out a new deal over teacher evaluations.

The two sides have scheduled talks for Wednesday.

They must reach an agreement by Jan. 17 or risk losing $250 million in state funding.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott told the Daily News (http://nydn.us/Xiy9bM ) that the two sides "have a significant amount of time blocked for the remainder of this week and next week" to discuss the issues.

The talks had stalled before Christmas.
