Police say a woman using a walker who was being assisted by her husband across an intersection was hit -- possibly by two cars.
This fatal crash happened near 43rd Avenue and Cactus around 6:55 a.m. Friday. Police say the husband and wife were not in a crosswalk and it was dark outside.
"There is a potential for a secondary vehicle to be involved. We believe, perhaps that one vehicle may have struck her and the second may have ran over her..that is something we're trying to determine," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.
While the husband was able to cross the street safely, the woman was hit after crossing half of the intersection. Martos says she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say one driver did pull over. She is being interviewed by detectives.
The 43rd Avenue and Cactus intersection will be closed during the investigation.
"One of the biggest things that we see..is collisions involving pedestrians crossing the roadway -- we encourage people to use crosswalks or larger intersections to cross the road," said Martos.
No names have been released in this case.
