NJ man charged in shooting that injured a young boy

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Police in have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder for shooting a 5-year-old boy in the face in New Jersey.

Plainfield police say Jose Rodriguez opened fire on a Plainfield Street around 4:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon. He was arrested on Saturday at a friend's home in Piscataway. 

Authorities say the 5-year-old Jasir Gibson was walking with his mother when he was hit by the stray bullet. The child was not the intended target of the shooting, according to police. 

The unidentified boy is in the hospital listed in critical but stable condition. 

Police are still looking for a motive in the shooting.
