PHOENIX (AP) - A 24-year-old man who was base jumping off a mountain in Phoenix suffered injuries when he struck rocks on his way down.

The Phoenix Fire Department says the man's chute opened after he jumped off Camelback Mountain on Sunday morning, but he struck rocks about halfway down the mountain and then fell 60 to 80 feet.

The extent of his injuries was unavailable.

He was being transported to a hospital.

Base jumping is the sport of jumping off fixed structures and using parachutes to break the fall.
