Arlington rail project expected to cause traffic delays

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON, Texas -

More than half a dozen busy railroad crossings in Arlington will be closed beginning on Thursday, likely causing some traffic headaches.

Union Pacific is replacing a 13-mile stretch of rail through the city. Crossings at PVT Road, Bowen Road, Davis Street, Cooper Street, Center Street, Mesquite Street, Collins Street and Stadium Drive East will each be closed for a few days at a time.

Police and city leaders are bracing for a gridlock and frustrated drivers. They've suggested people use alternate routes.

For example, they suggested some people avoid the obvious detours, go to the edge of the city and work their way in on the side streets.

Traffic cameras and an interactive map is also available online at http://myarlingtontx.com/up/.
