SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A South Texas husband and wife have been banned from the federal tax returns business after investigators found improper credits and losses topping $3 million.
The Department of Justice on Tuesday announced details of the injunction against Pete Escalante Gutierrez and Jeanette Gutierrez of San Antonio. The couple consented to the federal judge's order without admitting guilt.
The pair must sell their interests in their companies, identified as FCRE Inc., Fast Cash Refund Express Electronic Tax Service LLC, Fast Cash Refund Express and Fast Cash Express Electronic Services.
Authorities say Pete and Jeanette Gutierrez must also turn over the names of customers they did tax returns for since January 2012.
The government says the tax losses go back to 2006.
