Brandy Johnson
The medical examiner has identified the woman who drowned in the Trinity River Wednesday afternoon.
Family members said 19-year-old Brandy Johnson was five months pregnant. They believe she died trying to get across the Fort Worth river to get to a nearby office building to get to a job interview.
An employee working on the sixth floor in the Park Plaza building, which overlooks the Trinity, said he heard a woman scream. When he looked out the window, he saw her struggling in the water then said she disappeared.
He immediately called 911. By the time he and a co-worker got to the river, they couldn't find her.
Witnesses on scene said a pair of women's boots was floating in the water.
Divers began searching the water at 1 p.m. After 20 minutes, they found the body.
The medical examiner found the cause of death to be drowning. She fell from the low water dam into the water.
Family members said Johnson was trying to get a job to help take care of her family. She and her boyfriend were planning a life together and had planned on naming their baby Messiah.
